In last week’s blog, I talked about how Purple Cow’s TPA plan hits the “sweet spot” for the country’s underserved niche market – a market consisting of growing organizations and groups that are struggling to find affordable healthcare options to satisfy specific needs.
Purple Cow’s TPA plan is a self-insuring healthcare solution that operates on a cost-plus basis, letting you enjoy the benefit of paying only for what you use; it’s a highly customizable option that allows you to waive your own limits and exclusions, set your own hierarchy rules, and add à la carte optional benefits, among others; and it perfectly encapsulates Purple Cow’s goal of delivering products that are truly remarkable.
In case you’re not entirely convinced yet, why not take it from the two non-corp groups who have already signed-up for the plan and are now enjoying its benefits. Here are some of what they had to say about it:
ICA Alumnae Association
Last year, Immaculate Conception Academy’s (ICA) Falcon ‘95 batch, launched ICAre, an illness prevention and health maintenance program that provides the school’s retired educators free medical assistance.
“ICAre is a passion project of our batch together with the ICA Alumnae Association (ICAAA). It was funded through donations from the ICA community; most of which were from our batch's fundraising efforts,” said Grachell Tan, a core member of Falcon ‘95.
Tan noted that it was important for the ICAre team to find the right health plan, “With our limited budget, we had to look for anhealthcare plan that was affordable but doesn't scrimp on benefits and gives quality service,”
The ICAre team shopped around and compared various HMO plans, but none fit the program more than Purple Cow’s TPA plan.
“I think that Purple Cow's plan is the best fit for ICAre since the beneficiaries are all seniors. Most HMOs do not accept seniors or those with pre-existing illnesses.”
Purple Cow doesn’t discriminate by age. Beneficiaries are also protected up to 100% of their plan’s maximum benefit limit for pre-existing conditions, congenital conditions, and special procedures.
“It’s also cost-efficient; it’s designed to offer more benefits for a lesser price,” added Tan.
Since launching the program last year, the beneficiaries have been able to enjoy quick and easy access to a host of inpatient and outpatient services.
“The teachers are happy that they can now easily avail of medical benefits by simply showing their Etiqa card or by stating their membership number accompanied by a valid ID. Even for non-accredited doctors or laboratories, they can reimburse up to their medical limit.”
“We are happy too that this program has given our retired teachers access to medical care. It is good to know that we can give them assistance at this stage of their lives,” said Tan.

Quebracho New Business Office, Sun Life Financial
“Who wouldn’t want a flexible program that’s fit for different employee demographics while staying cost-effective for a company,” said Vincent Yumul about Purple Cow’s TPA plan.
Yumul, a sales manager of Sun Life Financial’s Quebracho NBO, touched on how the plan’s relatively low cost yielded significant savings for them each year. In fact, the cost was one of the main reasons the branch changed providers and signed-up for Purple Cow in the first place.
“With the savings from the plan, we now have a bigger budget for employee RnR programs and other incentives. And, during these trying times, it also gave us a lot of wiggle room from a financial standpoint.”
“Other than the cost, we appreciated the flexibility of the plan wherein members can decide the group’s guidelines or requirements, such as the age limit of members, for example.”
“The product’s flexibility just sealed the deal for us,” Yumul emphasized.
He added that everything has been going smoothly since they signed-up about three years ago, from the membership on-boarding to the annual renewal and the availing of medical services from partners.
“We have employees who have already availed of the services; some were emergency-related. And we’re glad the hospital immediately accepted them. We then billed the TPA account upon discharge without having the employee pay a single peso.”
“The whole experience was fairly easy and fast,” Yumul commented.
“Another thing that attracted us to Purple Cow is, of course, our confidence in our partner, Ms. Janet Ng. We trust that she’ll always point us to the best products and services in the market – products that fit our requirements and current needs.”
